I have been through many layoffs over the years and have seen colleagues come and go. I’ve survived them but this time felt different. This week was the week the notification would be sent out to all the employees who are impacted. It’s never easy especially to all parties involved: HR, the manager, and the employees.
I checked my email in the morning to find the dreaded email informing me that I was impacted. I reread it thinking it was a mistake but it soon followed with an invite with my manager and HR which confirmed it. The emailed explained why and it provided the off-boarding process and the severance information. I was a bit shocked at first but then I accepted my fate after the meeting was over. The meeting was short and straight to the point.
This week was filled with mixed emotions of denial, anger, and acceptance but I knew I had to shake it off and move forward. I went to the gym to relieve some stress and it felt great, it lifted my spirits and improved my mood. As I was channel surfing after a gym session, I stumbled upon a women’s YouTube Chanel documenting her 75 Hard challenge. The 75 hard challenge entails working out twice a day with one workout outside, eating a healthy diet, reading 10 pages of non-fiction, drinking one gallon of water, and taking a progress picture daily. It seems a bit extreme since it takes 21 days to form a habit but the 75 days challenge focuses on transformation changes both mentally and physically. The women completed the 75 challenged and her transformation was phenomenal.
Stumbling on the 75 challenge was a sign that I needed to do for myself. I want to transform to be the best version of myself by improving my physical and mental health. I’ve struggled with my weight over the years and I’m ready to shed the extra weight off once and for all. My goal is to consistently go to the gym and eat healthy. As of right now I only go on the weekends but since I have time now, my goal is to go regularly in the morning. No excuses!
As I researched the 75 Hard program, it seemed a bit extreme for me with two workouts per day and one gallon of water. These two are what I struggle with now and I’m not about to fail. I’ve decided to do the 75 Soft instead which consist of one workout for forty five minutes, three liters of water, ten pages of any book, and eat well. The 75 Soft is more up my ally and I’m excited to embark on this challenge.
To prepare for the challenge, I decided to download the 75 app to track my progress daily. The app is easy to use and you can check off the task you’ve completed. This will truly make myself accountable for my actions. I’m excited but scared at the same time since I don’t like the gym. I get really intimidated with using the equipment and get self conscious about my weight. The only time I get excited about going to the gym is to attend a class like zumba, body pump, yoga, or barre. I prefer classes because there’s an instructor and I can get in and out in an hour.
I will document my progress with a weekly recap on what I’ve done for the week. I will start this Sunday and will post my progress on Saturday. This will be tough but doable. I recruited my partner who will be doing the 75 Hard Challenge since he’s already completed the challenge before. If he can do it, I can do it too!
